In some older homes it is not unusual to find no mechanical ventilation in bathrooms to avoid the musty smell of dampness.
Many homeowners with a DIY bathroom will be looking to solve this problem while keeping costs low at the same time.
In this case, an electrician is only required for some necessary wiring and switching - have them locate a power point in the ceiling space near the fan location and ensure the fan has the appropriate plug on the end of the lead.
After that, you are now in a position to complete the job yourself.
The first step is to locate the fan between rafters in the ceiling space. Make a small hole in the ceiling so that you know the centre position for marking.
The fan unit will have a template that you can now trace on to the ceiling. Cut the hole by using a small hack saw to move around the marking, lightly sanding the edges afterwards for ease of installation.
Plug the lead into the prepared power point and slide the unit into place. Clips on the fan will help locate and secure the fan in place.
