Queensland's construction industry will receive $280 million for road development projects, according to the state government.
The money is being provided under the first round of a Newman government initiative to boost road conditions and help local building firms obtain more work.
This could result in more traffic signs and attenuators popping up around the state, as Queensland transport minister Scott Emerson outlined the details of five road-asset management contracts being offered.
"These contracts will stimulate the local road construction industry, underpin local jobs, and give taxpayers real value for money as stage one of a program that will eventually deliver more than $400 million of road work," he explained.
"These new contracts will deliver more bang for our buck, and encourage innovation and the use of new products."
Projects will be carried out to improve the road network quality on the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane.
Several companies will be delivering the projects, which will commence at the end of next month, following an open tendering process.
The organisations are the Leighton Boral Amey joint venture, Road Infrastructure Services and Downer Mouchel.
