You don't have to give up on your garden DIY projects just because it's getting chillier, pull on your garden gloves and get to tending your lawn for the winter ahead!
Award-winning horticulturalist and Turf Australia ambassador Meredith Kirton said to use the autumn months to strengthen your lawn for the winter.
"Autumn is an ideal time to treat your lawn to a ‘detox’, as the soil remains warm for some time, and the break from BBQs and outdoor activities allows it to recuperate," Kirton said.
Turf Australia has offered some helpful tips to help you care for your lawn for the chilly months.
Feed
You can still feed your lawn as the soil is still warm during autumn. Turf Australia says to try a feed and weed spray-on formula that attaches to your hose and sprays on as you water.
Aerate
Use a garden fork to work into the soil a few centimetres, leaving small holes where water and fertiliser can penetrate.
If a large area needs to be covered, hire a lawn aerator from Kennards to get the job done.
Dethatch
A metal rake can be used for dethatching to remove older grass and mulch build up, encouraging 'new, thick growth'.
