Victorian tradies are among the safest in the country, a new report has revealed.
Safe Work Australia's Comparative Performance Monitoring Report showed that Victoria boasts the lowest number for workers compensation claims, indicating the state's employees practice more vigilance in the workplace than the rest of the nation.
Figures showed that for every 1,000 employees in Victoria, there were nine serious injury and disease claims - lower than the national average of 12.2 claims.
"Our determination to improve workplace safety in Victoria has seen our state become the national leader in workplace safety," state assistant treasurer Gordon Rich-Phillips explained.
"Victoria has the safest scheme, the most effective scheme, the lowest rate of workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths and the lowest workers' compensation premiums in the country."
Tasmania recorded the most claims, with 15.6 for every 1,000 employees, followed by Queensland with 14.7, New South Wales with 13.7, the ACT with 13, South Australia with 12.3, Western Australia with 12 and the Northern Territory with 11.2 claims.
Mr Rich-Phillips said the state government is committed to boosting safety within the workplace, launching a number of campaigns to ensure the message if received by employers and staff.
Current campaigns focus on manual handling and the operation of dangerous machinery, as well as preventable trips and falls.
