Four and a half years after the Christchurch earthquake, the rebuilding of infrastructure continues. One such project is the replacement and upgrade of the Sumner wastewater network.

To complete 3kms of deep drainage and de-watering, local business, CB Civil and Drainage, hired a range of equipment from Kennards Hire, including excavators, generators and loaders.

“The scope of works for 12 month project incorporated laying 1.5kms of 300mm diameter RRJ PVC pipe at depths of 2 – 3 metres,” explained Jamie Campbell, Director CB Civil and Drainage. “It also involved re-sizing  pipe bursting of approximately 120 lineal metres of 100mm diameter to 150mm diameter Polyethylene.”

Jamie and his team also assisted with the relining of approximately 140m of 225mm diameter pipe with 180OD PE and laying of approximately 400 lineal metres of 150mm diameter RRJ PVC to depths of 0-1.5m. In addition to pipelines the installation of several associated manholes was also undertaken by CB Civil and Drainage.

“We’ve used a lot of products from Kennards Hire on various projects including mini excavators, four tonne loaders, compactors demolition breakers concrete saws and generators and submersible pumps,” said Jamie. “If any of the equipment is required to have certification or qualifications for a particular site it’s taken care of by Kennards Hire.”

Established in August 2012, CB Civil and Drainage is a mid-size company specialising in civil infrastructure development and drainage works across the private and government sector in the Canterbury region. CB Civil and Drainage deliver all aspects of Civil, Sub-Divisional, Commercial and Residential drainage including well-point de-watering and sheet piling. PVC, Concrete and PE; including welding.

“The service we receive from Kennards Hire is excellent. Branch Manager Daniel Manning is always very responsive to our needs and works to ensure everything is right for a project,” Jamie said.

“Kennards Hire is also very flexible when it comes to equipment,” he added. “It’s a great benefit to off-hire equipment that’s still required on site but not being utilised. This eliminates the inconvenience of returning equipment and re-hiring it later, which is a great timesaving initiative.”

Kennards Hire now has 17 branches across New Zealand including specialist branches Kennards Hire Lift & Shift, which specialises in materials handling solutions and Kennards Hire Concrete Care, which has a comprehensive range of equipment for the concreting industry.
